We're looking for volunteers who have experience in these fields, or are looking for relevant work and volunteer experience.
Responsibilites include 4 yearly meetings (1 each quarter), fundraising and a time commitment of roughly 40 hours over the entire year (including meetings). Corporate Board members must pass background checks and sign the HOBY Code of Conduct. For more information, please email Todd Willits.
Facilitators
Facilitators play a critical role during the weekend leadership seminar. You will be assigned a group of 8-10 student ambassadors who you will be guiding, mentoring, cheering, and supporting throughout the weekend as they participate in discussions, leadership workshops, and team building exercises.
As a Facilitator, you are required to stay on campus during the entire leadership weekend seminar, including overnight stay. We ask that you arrive Thursday night at 6:30 PM and stay until Sunday at 3:30 PM.
If you are interested in being a Facilitator at the HOBY Rhode Island seminar, please email Todd Willits.
Program Assistants
The unsung heroes of the weekend, Program Assistants help to run the seminar from behind the scenes. Some responsibilities include distributing materials to the groups, setting up breakfasts/lunches, organizing the groups into new facilities, cheering, etc.
As a Program Assistant, you are required to stay on campus during the entire leadership weekend seminar, including overnight stay. We ask that you arrive Thursday night at 6:30 PM and stay until Sunday at 3:30 PM.
If you are interested in being a Program Assistant at the HOBY Rhode Island seminar, please email Todd Willits.
Junior Staff - Apply Here
Junior staff are an essential part of the HOBY experience. They are expected to integrate ambassadors, help facilitate discussions, keep ambassadors enthusiastic, and serve as peer role models throughout the weekend.
As Junior Staff, you are required to stay on campus during the entire leadership weekend seminar, including overnight stay. We ask that you arrive Thursday night at 6:30 PM and stay until Sunday at 3:30 PM.
Prerequisites
To be considered for HOBY RI junior staff, the following perquisites must be met:
Volunteer Hours - Volunteerism is at the core of HOBY programs and staff. All Junior Staff are required to have logged at least 50 hours of volunteer service by the application deadline of December 31st. Please log your service hours on the HOBY National site.
Service Club Visit - Attend a local meeting of a Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Lions Club, etc. and ask them to sponsor a student to attend the seminar for $350 (which includes the $150 registration fee and the $200 cost of the facilities and seminar supplies. These organizations are very interested in HOBY but want to hear first-hand from someone that has experienced the program. You are not required to obtain the student sponsorship to be a Junior Staff, but you are required to attend a meeting. We want to get our name out there and let people know the great things about HOBY.
Fundraise - The Corporate Board works very hard to fundraise the $12,000 per year for the seminar and we need your help. The cost for a student and staff member to attend HOBY, including room and board, facilities, and food is $200. HOBY National then requires an additional $150 fee per student ambassador. Although we ask the school to cover the $150 fee, many schools do not have the funds to do so. In order to ensure equal opportunities to all schools, we are trying to pay this cost whenever possible. As you can see, this can be a cost of up to $350 per ambassador. Junior staff are required to fundraise enough to cover the cost for a student of $350 to stay for the weekend. However, we encourage you to fundraise even more. For each additional $350, we are able to invite an ambassador who would not have been able to experience HOBY otherwise. Our intent is not to discourage you from applying. We have a more challenging goal than ever, and we know that your leadership can help us meet that goal!
